Bugs That Look Like Fleas

These bugs are a distant cousin of the familiar red ant. They are small brown insects that tend to be found on dark surfaces like wooden decks, fences, and floors. When disturbed, they bite, and their bite stings. Their bites are painless, with no burn or itching. The closest resemblance to an insect with fleas is their brown appearance and similarities in behavior, as they forage and feed on similar materials. They get their name from their ability to jump, like a flea, to jump long distances from their host, and their long legs. They can be found on window sills, in window wells, and indoors on window sills, molding, and window sill strips. Their biggest hosts are dogs and cats, as they typically hide in animal bedding, but they will also feed on birds, squirrels, and humans.

Bugs that look like fleas

Most people rarely even see insects, let alone think about them, but pests can wreak havoc on your home and your pet. You can avoid lots of pest problems by having your humble abode regularly inspected. You can do several things to keep your home pest-free, starting with sealing all cracks and crevices, which insects love to use to enter your abode. For extra protection, seal off any holes along the exterior of your home. Here are the bugs that you can see that look like fleas.

Bat bugs

Bats bugs are one of the bugs that look like fleas. Bats bugs are insects that belong to the species bat mite. The adults are approximately 0.5 in long, wingless, and tan to white in color. When disturbed, they will hiss and fly off. Their bite is painful, and most people will develop a rash. Bat bugs are parasitic and feed on blood.

Bed bugs

Bed bugs are one of the most difficult pests to control, as they usually hide in hard-to-reach places. They are flat, small parasitic insects feeding on humans’ and animals’ blood. Bed bugs are nocturnal insects that feed on blood from humans while asleep. They are found in bedrooms, furniture, and mattresses, inside luggage and suitcases, and behind wallpaper and picture frames. These come in reddish-brown color and are about 1/16 of an inch in length. Their flattened oval shape makes them difficult to detect.

Springtails

Springtails look like fleas, but they are really tiny bugs that look like shrimp. They’re about 1/16th of an inch long. Some people call springtails “grasshoppers.” Springtails live in the soil, field, and garden. Some experts say that springtails can live almost anywhere. All springtails have jointed legs and antennae. However, not all springtails have wings. Springtails have eyes. Many of the springtails have small mouths and chewing mouthparts. They also eat soil.

Head louse

Head lice are tiny parasitic insects that live on the human head, feeding on the hair. They live by sharing the blood meal from the human scalp and can’t survive without human blood. Head lice are spread easily by close contacts, such as sharing clothes, brushes, or combs. Head lice are most commonly found in children, but they are found at all life stages. They may spread to people in close contact with the infested person or share the same hair accessories.

Flea beetles

Flea beetles are one of the bugs that look like fleas. Flea beetles are tiny, about 1⁄8 inch long, and black, brown, or gray. They lay eggs in carpets, rugs, or on pet fur or bedding. Flea beetles lay about 300,000 eggs during their lifetime. Flea beetles do not cause disease but can cause an allergic reaction.

Fungus gnats

Fungus gnats are the name given to a group of insects that look just kind of like fleas. These pests are tiny, and they love to eat decaying plants, fungi, and mold—and that’s why they can be found in gardens, on houseplants, and even inside buildings. Fungus gnats are one of the most common causes of indoor insect infestations, and just like fleas, they can survive a long time without eating, so getting rid of them can be a challenge.

Froghoppers

Froghoppers, also known as hoppers, are a type of biting midge that bites humans. These insects are also known as gnats. These insects look like fleas and flies and look like they crawl around on hands and feet. This insect is only about 1/8 of an inch long. The biting midge (or froghopper) is, in fact, a type of fly that favors warm, moist environments. The word “froghopper” comes from the fact that it looks similar to a small frog. Froghoppers breed in standing water or in damp, decaying vegetation. They may also breed in wet soil when it is heavily infested with ants.

Confused Flour Beetle

The flour beetle is a winged insect and is often found in clean, dry food products such as flour and crackers. Flour beetles are one of the most commonly found insects in the US. Flour beetles have six legs and can weigh less than 0.1 oz. These tiny pests are most often found around food products, in pantries, and in kitchen cabinets. When flour beetles are in a home, they will do damage to the largest and most accessible foods. Flour beetles feed off the flour and other grains, so when you store flour in air-tight containers, they will not be able to reach the food.
