Little Black Ants: What Are They And How Do You Get Rid of Little Black Ants?

Little black ants are common in Mississippi homes, especially in bathrooms and kitchens.  Little black ants are tiny, at less than 1/16 inch long, with shiny black or dark brown bodies.

Little black ant nests are typically found outdoors but they come inside homes in search of food and water.

There are three steps involved in getting rid of little black ants.  First, sanitation.  Remove the source of food or water that is attracting ants to your home in the first place.  Second, attempt to locate the little black ant nests outside your home and treat with liquid insecticides, granular insecticides, or ants baits.  Third, for little black ants inside the home, spray liquid insecticides to kill any remaining ants.

What are Varied Carpet Beetles and How To Get Rid of Varied Carpet Beetles Quickly?

Varied carpet beetles are common household pests that feed on items such as food, carpet, and clothing.  Most of the times varied carpet beetles are found in dark, undisturbed areas of the home like closets in the seams of carpet.  Varied carpet beetles are a tiny species of carpet beetle approximately 1/8 inch long with no wings.

Non-chemical methods of getting rid of varied carpet beetles include frequent vacuuming and wiping down surfaces wtih vinegar.  Liquid and dust insecticides, as well as insect growth regulators, are effective getting rid of varied carpet beetles.  Insecticides when used in combination with frequent vacuuming and sanitation are the best way to get rid of varied carpet beetles.

Lyme disease Prevention and How To Control Ticks around the Home?

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks to humans.  Lyme disease can be very serious with long-term consequences including joint pain, neurological issues, fatigue, and  fever.  If you suspect you have been bitten by a tick, inspect the site of the bite looking for a rash in a bulls eye pattern.

To protect yourself from tick bites wear long sleeved shirts and pants and avoid areas with tall grass and overgrown bushes.  The best method to prevent ticks in your lawn and landscape is the regular application of liquid and/or granular insecticides during the warm spring, summer, and fall months.

How to Prevent Spiders and Cobwebs Around My Mississippi Home?

Spiders in and around our homes in Mississippi are quire common.  Spiders are beneficial outside the home as they control unwanted crawling and flying insects.  Inside the home, spiders become a problem.

Most spiders in the home are not poisonous or venomous.  The most common dangerous spiders in Mississippi are the Brown Recluse, Black Widow, and Wolf spider.  To get rid of spiders, liquid and dust insecticides as well as glue boards are effective managing spider infestations.  

How to Identify and Get Rid of Common House Ants?

Common ants in the home include little black ants, odorous house ants, ghost ants, argentine ants, crazy ants, and pavement ants.  Methods for getting rid of house ants differ based on the type of ants you are dealing with.  Proper identification of the type of house ant you are dealing with is a critical first step.

After that, try to figure out what is attracting ants inside your home(usually a food or water source) and remove the source.  Ant baits and insecticides(liquid, granular, or dust) are effective controlling house ants.

Getting Rid Of Drain Flies Quickly In the home?

Drain flies are very common flies in the US found in kitchen and bathroom drains, tubs, and sinks. Drain flies are also referred to as moth flies due to their tiny wings and furry, moth-like bodies. Drain flies reproduce rapidly, in as little as 48 hours.  Drain fly infestations can quickly grow out of control.

Drain flies feed and live on organic matter in drains.  Organic drain foams applied regularly are an excellent way to prevent drain fly infestations.  Insecticides and IGRs can be used to quickly eliminate drain fly infestations.  

How To Identify and Get Rid of Pantry Moths?

Pantry moths are a common pest found in kitchens that are also known as grain moths.  Pantry moths feed on a wide variety of foodstuffs, including cereal, nuts, granola, flour, and pet food.  Pantry moths are easily identifiable with white spots on their wings and bodies up to 1/2 inch in length.

To get rid of pantry moths, first remove and throw away all infested items.  After that insecticides and traps specific for pantry moths can be used to gain control of the infestation.  Prevention of pantry moths is key after an infestation by keeping all containers of food tightly sealed and throwing away out-of-date items.

What are Box Elder bugs?

Box elders are common insects found in the midwestern U.S.  With a distinctive look(reddish brown in color with black spots), box elders are easy to identify. Box elders feed on the sap of box elder trees. When box elders invade homes, they can infest electronics and any area of the home with electrical wiring.  Box elders can live off of mold and mildew in moist areas of the home.

Box elder bugs rarely bite but do carry diseases.  Box elders are also considered to be one of the most destructive pests in the U.S.  When box elders invade a home, insecticides are a good first option.  After that, frequent vacuuming will help remove any remaining box elder bugs.

Spider Mites: What To Do About Spider Mites on Plants?

Spider mites are tiny parasitic insects that feed on plants including indoor plants.  They feed on the leaves of plants causing visible damage.  Spider mite damage can show up as wilted leaves, yellowing leaves, shiny spots, or silk webbing.

To get rid of spider mites, insecticides are helpful in quickly getting rid of the problem.  After that, keeping the home at 65 to 72 degrees and keeping plants free of dead and decaying leaves can help prevent spider mites from returning.
