Synergy Jackson Pest Control: FAQ’s About Bed Bugs

What are black bed bugs?

Bed bugs are usually light brown to reddish brown in color.  So what does a bug that looks like a bed bug but is black mean?  If it is a bed bug, bed bugs can turn black in color after feeding.  The color is due to the fact that bed bugs feed on blood.

Black bed bugs are indicative of an active bed bug infestation.  Once bed bugs have access to a blood meal, usually from humans, they can quickly reproduce.  Bed bug infestations that start small can become a major problem in just a few weeks.

Best bed bug killer?

Bed bugs are increasingly becoming more resistant to some insecticides.  So what is the best bed bug killer?  Usually a combination of effective and thorough bed bug preparation combined with use of the latest cutting-edge chemicals for bed bug control.

Older insecticides are becoming much less effective for control of bed bugs.  The latest bed bug killer technology includes: CrossFire, Aprehend, and combination insecticides.  Bed bug resistance to these newer chemicals is much less than with older insecticides.

What to do about bugs in bedroom?

Bugs anywhere in your home are nasty, but the thought of bugs in your bedroom and bed for most people is unacceptable.  Bed bugs are one of the most common bugs to find in your bedroom.   But there are plenty of others: fleas, spiders, cockroaches, ants, and spiders.

If the bugs in your bedroom are bed bugs, immediate attention is required. Bed bugs can be difficult to get rid of and reproduce rapidly.  What starts as a small bed bug infestation can quickly grow out of control.

Best bed bug treatments?

Bed bug treatments have evolved in the past few years to adapt to bed bug resistance to traditional insecticides.  Bed bug treatment option include heat, bio-pesticides, liquid insecticides, dust insecticides, insect growth regulators, and organics.

Regardless of the treatment option you choose for bed bug extermination in your home, preparation prior to the treatment is key.  Removing and washing bed sheets, mattress covers, clothing, and curtains in very hot water will kill bed bugs. Frequently vacuuming carpet, hardwood flooring, and furniture will also help.

What to do about bed bugs on mattresses?

One of the most common places to first notice signs of bed bugs is your mattress.  Bed bugs like to hide during the day and come out at night when they detect the CO2 you exhale while sleeping.  Signs of bed bugs on mattresses include live and dead bed bugs, shed bed bug skins, and blood spots.

Treating just the mattress will likely not solve you bed bug problem.  Bed bugs live in all parts of the bedroom and home.  To reduce the chance of bed bugs infesting your mattress there are several things you can do: vacuum and wash sheets and bedding frequently, install bed bug proof mattress and box spring covers, and/or hire a company specializing in bed bug extermination to treat the whole house.

What are bugs that look like bed bugs?

Waking up to blood stains and bites on your body is not a good feeling.  Bed bugs are common indoor pests that require immediate attention before the infestation grows quickly out of control.  Proper identification of bed bugs is necessary to determine the correct treatment plan.  There are a number of other bugs that look like bed bugs.

Bed bugs look similar to several other insects, especially bat bugs.  In addition to bat bugs, others include booklice, baby cockroaches, ticks, fleas, head lice, carpet beetles, and several species of mites.
